The Discount, Plainly Stated
- $500 off any full residential roof replacement for qualifying veterans, active military, and first responders
- $250 off major repairs (5+ squares of partial replacement, valley reflashing, ridge vent reinstall, multi-slope storm repairs)
- Priority scheduling for active first responders during storm-emergency periods
- No expiration — the discount applies to whenever you decide to do the work
- Stackable with insurance claim payouts, financing, manufacturer rebates, and Class 4 impact-resistant insurance discounts
The discount is the JRH share — it does not affect your insurance carrier’s payment, and it does not come from cutting corners on materials or labor. Same Master Elite installation, same Golden Pledge warranty, same crew, same inspection. The discount comes out of our margin.

How the Math Stacks on a Real DFW Roof
A 2,800 sqft Frisco home, retired Navy veteran homeowner, files an insurance claim after a hailstorm.
| Line Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Insurance scope (RCV) | $22,000 |
| Recoverable depreciation | $8,400 |
| Carrier total payout | $22,000 |
| Less: Wind/hail deductible (1.5%) | ($6,000) |
| Less: Hero Discount on deductible portion | ($500) |
| Veteran homeowner net out-of-pocket | $5,500 |
| If financed via Hearth (0% for 12 months) | ~$458/month |
The veteran homeowner replaces a $22,000 roof for $5,500 net out-of-pocket — financed at 0% interest if cash flow is the constraint. JRH handles all the insurance paperwork, the supplements, the recoverable depreciation submission. The Class 4 upgrade can also bring an annual insurance premium discount of 10-30%, paying back the upgrade itself within 3-5 years.
Why JRH Specifically Cares About This
JRH is veteran-operated. We work hard to make sure first responders, veterans, and active military families know that the roof over their head is taken care of by people who understand what they have done. That understanding is not a marketing pitch. We see DFW police officers and firefighters dealing with hail damage on their own homes after spending the storm itself responding to other people’s emergencies. The Hero Discount is the smallest version of paying that back.
We also support GAF Roofs for Troops — a national program that gives qualifying disabled or in-need veterans a fully donated roof replacement. We have completed donated roofs through that program in DFW. If you are a veteran in need who would not otherwise be able to afford a roof, we will help you with the application process. There is no cost to ask.
Other Veteran & First Responder Roofing Programs in Texas
The Hero Discount is one piece. Other programs to know:
- GAF Roofs for Troops. Annual program that fully donates a new roof to a qualifying veteran. Applications typically open in the summer. JRH is a participating GAF Master Elite contractor.
- Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project. Similar concept, donates roofs to veterans through Habitat for Humanity partnerships.
- Texas Veterans Commission Home Improvement Loan. Low-interest financing for home repairs including roof replacement, available to qualifying Texas veterans.
- USAA homeowner discount. If you bank or insure with USAA (open to military families), most home improvement projects qualify for member-only financing rates.
- Class 4 impact-resistant premium discount. Most Texas carriers (USAA, State Farm, Farmers, Allstate) offer 10-30% premium discount for Class 4 shingle roofs. Stacks with the Hero Discount on the project itself.
- Property tax exemptions for disabled veterans. Texas offers a graduated property tax exemption ($5K-$12K depending on disability rating) that does not affect roofing directly but does free up household cash flow toward home maintenance.

FAQ
Who qualifies for the JRH Hero Discount?
Active-duty military, veterans (any branch, any era), reservists, National Guard, active police officers, retired law enforcement, active firefighters, retired firefighters, EMS personnel, and certified emergency dispatchers. Spouses and surviving spouses of fallen heroes also qualify. We accept VA cards, DD-214, retired military ID, active police/fire ID, or department-issued credentials as verification.
Can the Hero Discount be combined with insurance claim payouts?
Yes — the discount comes off the homeowner’s out-of-pocket portion (typically the deductible). It does not affect the insurance carrier’s payment to JRH for covered scope. On a $20,000 insurance claim with a $5,000 deductible, the discount reduces your effective out-of-pocket from $5,000 to $4,500.
Can the Hero Discount be combined with financing?
Yes. We offer 0% financing through Hearth on qualifying projects, and the Hero Discount applies on top — reducing the principal financed by $500 before interest is calculated. This is one of the more common combinations on cash-pay or partial-cash-pay projects.
Do I have to be the original homeowner to use the discount?
No. The discount applies to whichever family member is the qualifying veteran or first responder, as long as they are listed on the contract. If the property is owned by a spouse, parent, or sibling who is the qualifying party, that is fine — we just need verification.
Does the discount cover roof repairs or only full replacements?
Full replacements: yes, $500 discount applies. Major repairs (5+ squares of partial replacement, ridge vent installation, valley reflashing): yes, $250 discount. Minor repairs under $1,000: no discount, but we still offer free inspections and quick response to first-responder homes.
How does JRH verify eligibility — what documents do I need?
Any one of the following: DD-214 (any copy version), VA card, current military ID, retired military ID, current law enforcement credentials, current fire/EMS credentials, retired police/fire ID with badge number. We never copy or store the document — we verify, log the discount, and return the original on the spot.
Are there other roofing discount programs in DFW?
Several manufacturers (GAF, Owens Corning) run periodic veteran rebate programs that come and go. Some Texas insurance carriers offer Class 4 impact-resistant shingle premium discounts (10-30%) which stack with the Hero Discount on the same project. Annual GAF Roofs for Troops grants give qualifying veterans a fully donated roof — applications open each summer.
