Ponding Water
Ponding water is standing water that remains on a flat roof for more than 48 hours after the last rainfall, indicating a drainage problem.
Ponding water is one of the most damaging conditions for commercial flat roofs in DFW. Standing water accelerates membrane deterioration, adds structural weight (1 inch of water = 5.2 lbs per square foot), promotes algae growth, and voids many manufacturer warranties. Causes include clogged drains, settled roof structure, poor original slope design, or HVAC unit placement blocking drainage paths. JRH Construction addresses ponding with tapered insulation systems, additional drains, or cricket installations.
