Roof Decking
Roof decking (also called sheathing) is the structural base layer of the roof — typically plywood or OSB panels nailed to the rafters or trusses, onto which underlayment and roofing materials are installed.
Most DFW homes use 7/16" OSB (Oriented Strand Board) or 1/2" CDX plywood for roof decking. After storm damage or prolonged leaks, decking can develop rot, soft spots, or delamination that compromises the structural integrity of the roof. JRH Construction inspects decking during every tear-off and replaces damaged sections before installing new roofing. Decking replacement typically costs $75-150 per sheet (4x8 panel) including labor.
