Step Flashing

Step flashing consists of small L-shaped pieces of metal woven into each course of shingles where the roof meets a vertical wall, such as a dormer or chimney.

Each piece of step flashing overlaps the one below it, creating a staircase pattern that channels water away from the wall junction. Improper step flashing is one of the top 5 causes of roof leaks in DFW homes. During re-roofing, JRH Construction always replaces step flashing — reusing old flashing is a code violation and common shortcut by unlicensed contractors.
