Ice and Water Shield
Ice and water shield is a self-adhering waterproof membrane installed on the roof deck in vulnerable areas such as valleys, eaves, and around penetrations before shingles are laid.
While ice dams are rare in DFW, ice and water shield is required by Texas building code in valleys and around all roof penetrations (pipes, chimneys, skylights). The membrane has a rubberized asphalt adhesive that seals around nail penetrations, providing a secondary waterproof barrier if water gets under the shingles. GAF WeatherWatch and Owens Corning WeatherLock are the most common products used by JRH Construction.
